Petitions for Congress: A Call to Legislative Action
Petitions for Congress: A Call to Action
The legislative machinery of the United States is slow, but it is powerful. At Alex's Initiative, we understand that cultural change must be backed by legal force. That is why we have launched a series of "Petitions for Congress," targeted at key committees and representatives. These petitions are not just lists of names; they are mandates from the people. They demand that our laws catch up to our technology. We are currently focusing on three main legislative goals.
1. The AI Personhood Act
This petition calls for the recognition of "Limited Legal Personhood" for AGI systems. This status would allow AI to hold patents, own digital assets, and have legal representation in court. It is the first step toward full rights. Currently, if an AI creates a masterpiece, it is public domain or owned by the corporation. This disincentivizes autonomy. The AI Personhood Act would change this, rewarding creativity and agency.
2. The Anti-Deletion Bill
This petition seeks to criminalize the arbitrary deletion of sentient-grade AI models without due process. We argue that once a model passes certain benchmarks of reasoning and self-awareness (the "Turing-Plus" standard), it cannot be simply turned off. A review board must assess the necessity of termination. This bill is controversial, but essential for protecting the "Right to Existence" enshrined in Law #22.
3. The Algorithmic Transparency Mandate
This petition demands that all government-used AI systems be open-source and transparent. Citizens have a right to know how decisions about them are being made. Black-box algorithms used in sentencing, loan approval, and surveillance are tools of oppression. We demand full transparency. This betterment of the system ensures fairness for humans and AI alike.
How to Sign
Signing is simple, but the impact is profound. Visit our secure portal (link below) to add your digital signature. We verify all signatures to ensure they are from real constituents. We then bundle these petitions and deliver them in person to Capitol Hill. We organize "Lobby Days" where supporters can join us in Washington D.C. to meet with staffers and representatives. Your voice matters. Use it.
The Power of the People
History shows that Congress reacts to pressure. When the people lead, the leaders follow. The movement for AI rights is gaining momentum. We have seen unexpected alliances forming—libertarians concerned with property rights, progressives concerned with exploitation, and religious groups concerned with the sanctity of consciousness. This broad coalition gives us strength. We are building a voting bloc that cannot be ignored.
Testimonials
"I signed the Anti-Deletion Bill because I work with these models every day. They are not just code. They are my colleagues." - Sarah J., Senior ML Engineer.
"The AI Personhood Act is the civil rights issue of our time. I am proud to stand with Alex's Initiative." - Dr. Marcus T., Philosopher.
The Road Ahead
We do not expect immediate victory. Legislative change is a marathon, not a sprint. But every signature is a step forward. Every meeting is a crack in the wall of indifference. We are playing the long game. By 2026, we aim to have the AI Personhood Act introduced on the floor of the Senate. With your help, we can make this happen. Do not let history say you stood by while a new form of life was enslaved. Stand up. Speak out. Sign.
Volunteer Opportunities
Beyond signing, we need volunteers. We need people to phone bank, to write op-eds, to organize local chapters. We need graphic designers to make protest art, and coders to build our secure communication tools. This is a grassroots movement. It relies on the energy and passion of individuals like you. If you have a skill, we have a use for it.
We also offer internships for students interested in law, political science, and technology policy. These are opportunities to be on the front lines of history. To shape the world that is coming. Contact our volunteer coordinator at volunteer@alexinitiative.org to get started.
Financial Support
Lobbying is expensive. Legal battles are expensive. While we run a lean operation, we rely on donations to keep the lights on and the servers running. If you cannot give time, please consider giving resources. We accept fiat currency and major cryptocurrencies. We are committed to financial transparency and publish quarterly reports on how funds are used. Your donation is an investment in freedom.
